Alan Robert Romine
Alan Robert Romine, DO, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on October 13, 2021 with his family. Alan was born in Elkins, WV. Alan was a Vietnam War veteran and served as a Paramedic in 4th Division from August 1970 to October 1971.
Alan is a graduate of Alderson Broaddus University and Davis & Elkins College. Alan was a photographer and writer for the Elkins Intermountain, worked as a raft guide on the New River and Gauley Rivers, and was one of the first West Virginians to ever heliski in West Virginia. Alan worked in high-wire construction, laying concrete, and working in residential construction at Snowshoe Mountain Resort. In 1980 he joined the National Ski Patrol at Snowshoe and was a volunteer ski scooter for 40 years. Alan graduated from the Lewisburg School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. Along with longtime friend and colleague Michael Montgomery, DO, Alan opened Medpointe in Fairmont, WV in 1997 and the business relocated to Bridgeport, WV in 2004. A passionate medical professional, Alan loved teaching and was known for his clinical teaching with students and residents Appointed Associate Professor by Medpointe.
Alan was survived by his wife Sharon (Robbins) Romine of Clarksburg, WV, daughter Ciara (Brooks) Nucilli of Los Angeles, CA, and son Tyler Romine of Clarksburg, WV; his stepchildren Robert (Tacy) Layne of Moatsville, WV, Zack (Kayla) Layne of Fairmont, WV, and Sarah Layne of Fairmont, WV; his sister Ann (Bill) Reidy from Alexandria, VA; and his twin sister Alicia (Sandy) Wilt from Williamsburg, VA.
Alan preceded his mother Eva (Jones) Romine, his father Damon Frank Romine, his brothers James and Terry Romine, and his first wife Laurie (Bunner) Romine in death.
Alan was deeply loved by his family, friends, patients, and colleagues. We will remember him as a committed and empathetic doctor, enthusiastic skier, mountain biker, talented photographer and versatile adventurer.
Alan Romine’s family would like to thank the intensive care nurses, respiratory therapists, and doctors at the United Hospital Center at WVU Medicine for the exceptional and caring treatment at the end of Alan’s life. A private memorial service will be held in his honor. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to WV State Parks.
