Egypt: Statement by President Abdul Fattah El-Sisi at the Cultural Symposium commemorating the 48th anniversary of the glorious October War

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful,

The great people of Egypt

Today we commemorate the forty-eighth glorious October victory, a day of honor and dignity, a day of victory that will endure forever in the history of our nation, a day of heroism and glory achieved by the men of the armed forces with their noble blood in a military pos that impressed the whole world. An epic written in letters whose ray outshines the whole world and represents the strength and determination of the Egyptians to reclaim their rights and uphold the sovereignty, territory and dignity of their homeland.

The October War will be remembered as a turning point in modern history, a symbol of Egypt’s dignity, honor and resilience. On the anniversary of the victory, I pay tribute and express my respect to the Egyptian military commanders and symbols for their bravery and sacrifice. I also pay tribute to the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their homeland.

I also salute the people of Egypt, who were instrumental in this glorious victory, for their steadfastness, conscience and support for their armed forces in the most difficult and precise times. This cohesion and public awareness have been the real guarantees since the beginning of history that have contributed to the preservation and prosperity of the Egyptian state and its deeply rooted civilization.

I also extend my greetings to the late President Mohammed Anwar El-Sadat, who made the decision on the crossing and spearheaded the great victory.

Brothers and sisters,

Egypt that fought and restored its land is the same Egypt that always seeks peace. Egypt has never sought war or conflict to pursue illegitimate ambitions or usurp the property and resources of others. However, Egypt always seeks to extend its hand of cooperation as a firm approach to prosperity, development and progress.

Great people of Egypt,

Days and years go by, thoughts change, forms of conflict change. Traditional wars that we have fought in the past have given way to unconventional conflicts aimed at destroying home from within. Egypt’s main concern now is awareness, which has become a shared responsibility of all government institutions and civil society organizations to protect our homeland and the resources of our people entrusted to us.

I recall the importance and value of the inspiring lessons we learned from the October victory which was not only a military victory but also a unique example of cohesion and public awareness across all Egyptian spectrums. It was also an integrated epic for a nation mobilizing all its might to change the bitter reality and achieve victory, and its success from its scientific approach to preparation, planning, study of past results and experiences, and diligence and drew hard work day and night to achieve the goal and gain victory.

Our celebration of the glorious October victory is a valuable occasion that lets us feel national pride and dignity. Let us all remember the many difficulties and challenges we overcame to get where we are now. A gift that Egypt is writing in a great success story that began years ago and shows the Egyptian determination to overcome adversity. Today we see Egypt by facts and figures, has found its true way to walk in firm steps towards development, progress and change of its reality, which corresponds to its history, civilization and the size of its people. Together we move forward with strength and determination to build and develop our country, despite the growing domestic and foreign policy challenges, especially in our tense and complicated regional environment, as well as unprecedented international crises to which Egypt was not immune, especially their effects the coronavirus pandemic.

The Egyptian people have once again demonstrated their deep awareness that their attachment and devotion to their homeland is limitless, that Egypt is a homeland that thrives through the will and help of its sons, and that work, diligence and honesty are essential values and pillars for success in overcoming the challenges of building the modern state.

In the past seven years we have taken a tough road to building our modern state and establishing the New Republic. We have started to achieve a comprehensive and profound process to formulate the desired future for our dear home and for the present and future generations. This happens within the framework of an integrated and harmonious joint action of all government agencies and based on a scientific vision and specific goals that we want to achieve within the current decade and to achieve the goals of the “Egypt Vision 2030” and development influenced all aspects of life without exception in Egypt to achieve a specific goal which is to maximize the ability of the state in all areas to transform reality and human development in pursuit of a better present and future for Egypt and the Egyptians. I am referring here to the unprecedented national project for the development of the Egyptian landscape, “Decent Life” (Hayah Kareema), which aims to raise the standard of living of more than half of the Egyptian population, who live in more than four thousand villages, at the initial stage Cost of about “£ 700 billion”.

Great people of Egypt,

Memories and championships presented by the great October generation will stay in our hearts forever. It will forever be a testimony to this nation’s resilience; it is also an inspiring model for us to work hard and constant hard work to elevate our nation, maintain its soil, and preserve the dignity of our homeland.

Many happy returns of the day,

In the hope of the grandeur and progress of Egypt, peace and prosperity,

Long live Egypt, long live Egypt

May God’s peace, mercy and blessings be with you

Thanks very much
