NILES – James L. Calabria, 83, of Niles, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 25, 2022.

He was born in Youngstown on January 31, 1939 to Luigi and Julia Stefanich Calabria.

He married Josephine Sabino on May 9, 1964 and they remained Niles residents for life.

Jim was a tow motor operator for Parker Hannefin-Commercial Intertech for 30 years and retired in 2001.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel congregation in Niles and the Beaver Sportsman Club.

He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He wanted to be part of the armed forces but was unable to serve due to his hearing loss. He was a strong supporter of all armed forces and veterans.

He will be sorely missed by his two daughters, Jodi Vasko and her husband Sean of Austintown and Kari Calabria, with whom he made his home, and two grandchildren, Deidre Minniti and Sean Vasko; and a brother Joseph Calabria of Austintown. He is also survived by his grandsons, Bensen and Piper, and his cat, Smoky.

He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine and daughter Jamie Calabria.

Friends and family can call from 4 to 6 p.m., with a memorial service on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 6 p.m. at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses, Keri, his social worker, and Chaplain Dan of Ohio Living Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during this difficult time.
