Scarecrow displays usually evoke a laugh or maybe a little fear, especially around Halloween. However, an exhibit in Waycross, Georgia moved some to tears with an overwhelming sense of patriotism.

From October 1st customers at Ellianos Coffee Co. (Facebook page here) were greeted by an exhibit showing the iconic photo that became the National Monument, “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima”. It celebrates the 2021 SwampTown Scarecrows competition sponsored by the Waycross – Ware County Chamber of Commerce.

A lot of love and care has definitely been put into this display. The cafe’s franchisee Kristy King Foreman said the design had been on her mind for a few years, but she and her family only started thinking about how to build and assemble it a few weeks ago.

“We started brainstorming and preparing to build a scarecrow exhibit that would not only help ‘decorate’ our city but hopefully show the gratitude we have for our armed forces, our freedoms and ours At home! ” She said.

After several hours of work and with the help of her parents, her husband, her 8-year-old daughter, her friends and co-workers, the project was completed.

“When I drove to work and the sun was rising on our 5 scarecrows and those bright stars and stripes, I just sat at the traffic lights and cried! It was overwhelming! Our scarecrows are beautiful! I’m more than proud of how they’re developing got off! “

Less than 12 hours after the scarecrows closed, she said her hard work had reached thousands of people through social media.

“Customers have told me stories about their loved ones. We cried at the window, we laughed, we hugged! I was totally overwhelmed by the love that was shown to me, ”she added.

Your wish is that it draws to the heart of every grateful American citizen who sees it.

“I am proud to be an American! I love my hometown Waycross! I love community spirit and I love small business. I am forever grateful for the men and women who made all of this possible! I’m so blessed and I don’t mind if everyone knows! ”She said.

The public is invited to view the exhibition for the entire month, and Kristy encourages fans to do the Waycross – Ware County Chamber of Commerce to support their participation in the SwampTown Scarecrows competition.

The photo that inspired the exhibit shows United States Marines hoisting the US flag on the summit of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II in February 1945 Marine Corps War Memorial which represents the event is located in Arlington, Virginia.
